Arctic Earth Observation Research

Multi-scale and multi-temporal remote sensing in different arctic ecosystems.

Our Research

We conduct research in Arctic ecosystems for applied research on geomorphology, ecology, botany or conservation using UAS and space-borne mulit-modal sensors.

Ice and Snow Research

Spatio-temporal snow dynamics, ice structure, snow on ice analysis, rain-on-snow events, temporal change, …

UAS and space-borne

Small scale UAS/UAV research with Lidar, multispectral and thermal sensors, satellite based analysis using active and passive sensors.

Application

Applied earth observation research for ecology, conservation as well as geomorphology and botany.

About us

We are the Earth Observation Research Cluster at the University of Wuerzburg, Germany, doing UAS- and satellite-based remote sensing for applied research on polar ecosystems.

Arctic  Research

Our research at the Earth Observation Research Cluster focuses on advanced remote sensing technologies to uncover environmental patterns in the arctic environment, focusing on the intricate interactions within polar ecosystems. By employing active and passise sensors on UAS and satellite-based methods, we capture detailed data that reveals changes in snow or ice conditions, permafrost, glacial dynamics, and the resilience of flora and fauna amidst a rapidly changing climate. Through interdisciplinary collaboration with leading experts in botany and ecology in the study region, we aim to deepen our understanding of these vital ecosystems, ensuring that our findings contribute to effective conservation strategies and sustainable management practices for the Arctic region.
